UN Database of Businesses in Occupied Palestinian Territory
The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) maintains a database of business enterprises involved in activities connected to Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem. This database emerged from Resolution 31/36 of the UN Human Rights Council in March 2016, which mandated an independent international fact-finding mission to investigate the implications of Israeli settlements on Palestinian civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights.
The database was first published in February 2020 after years of research and documentation, with the most recent update released in June 2023. The investigation identified business entities that contribute to the settlement enterprise through various activities including construction, security services, telecommunications, banking, tourism, and transportation. The OHCHR database serves as an official UN documentation of corporate complicity in violations of international law.
In July 2025, the UN expanded this work with a comprehensive investigation by Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese titled "From economy of occupation to economy of genocide" (A/HRC/59/23). This report examined approximately 1,000 corporate entities across eight key sectors—military manufacturing, surveillance technology, heavy machinery, natural resources, agribusiness, financial services, tourism, and academia—documenting how the occupation economy has evolved into what the report characterises as an "economy of genocide" following October 2023. The investigation explicitly named over 60 major corporations and concluded that continued engagement with Israel's occupation constitutes complicity in a "joint criminal enterprise," recommending prosecutions of corporate executives for international crimes including genocide, apartheid, and war crimes.
